Borne out of the heavy emotions of the Cerebral Reflections of the Mentally Ill was an explosion of energy that has come to be known as the abstract expressionist gallery of paintings, which is subdivided into exciting colors, black & white, and ochre. With bright bold strokes and high energy, these vibrant paintings depict the "bright" aspects of life and art.
Abstract Painting Details
These abstract paintings use very thick oil paint mixed with an encaustic medium, colors are applied by the artist with both a brush and palette knife. The high energy with which these works were made push the boundaries of two-dimensional space and seem to rise off the canvas to meet the viewer. Sometimes colorful, sometimes subdued in color, they are bold and highly energetic, these canvases have an endlessly playful curiosity to them that will brighten any mood.
"I felt that I needed to get away from the 'heavy' feelings that were associated with the mentally ill series. This was when I felt I no longer needed to paint 'a message' in order to justify being an artist. The idea of working with a full palette was exciting. This is how I started painting the works that have a lot of color.
I would work on a piece for awhile, rapidly applying paint, and then sit back and look at it to decide the next move, work on it some more and sit back again and so on..."
