The white series works followed Judy’s “Blue Series”. Her journey in minimalist art increased in intensity. “My quest has been to simplify my paintings, and eliminate boundaries. I believe there is harmony within each of us. I also believe there is suffering/fear in life due to everyday stress and struggles. My belief is that when one takes the time to be more aware of the harmony inside, the
suffering/fear is reduced. It is simple to be aware, yet difficult to put into practice. My desire is to express this harmony by allowing the piece of art to go beyond the limits of the canvas or paper. Sophisticated and monochromatic, these pieces are very unassuming at first glance due to their minimalist qualities. However, the more you look and reflect upon them, the more infinite these paintings seem. The duality of their simplicity and endless layers has been recognized by the art patrons, gallery owners, and art consultants nationwide..”
“White is very challenging. It represents the ultimate minimalism, as it is neutral and not even considered a color. It is usually used in the background. It signifies cleanliness, purity and light.” The white paintings are made up of white oil paint mixed with encaustic wax to add texture. They also incorporate burnt white encaustic to add another dimension to the space. In the beginning, muted earth tones were incorporated into the white, to create simple designs. Then the muted color was later reduced, and most recently, Judy has been producing works with different shades of white only. Some of the paintings in this series were created on two canvases attached together to produce a 3-D effect.
